Clothes Dryer Repair Denton TxCommon Clothes Dryer Repair Problems

Dryers are a great way to save time on doing laundry. Instead of having to hang wet clothes out to dry, you can just put them in the dryer and push a button to dry them off. If your dryer stops working for whatever reason, it can be a real hassle. Don’t worry too much though. It could be a minor problem that has a simple solution. If you need any extra help, then give us a call and we’ll be more than happy to sort out your dryer repair needs.

Dryer Doesn’t Start

The first thing to do if your dryer won’t start is to make sure that it is plugged in. If it is plugged in, then it could be a problem with the circuit breaker. Resetting your circuit breaker fixes most power problems, but if the problem persists it could be an issue with the thermal fuse, start switch, or door switch. Even those problems are easily repaired though.

Dryer Drum Quits Spinning

If everything else works fine but the dryer drum won’t spin, then the problem could be the drum belt. All dryers have a drum belt that spins the drum around to tumble your clothes (hence the term “tumble dryer”). These belts stretch and break as they get older. You could replace the belt by yourself, but we recommend getting the experts because it can be complicated. It can also be a sign of a deeper problem which will require professional assistance. Another common cause of drum problems is having a broken idler pulley. The pulley puts tension on the drum so that the motor turns the drum.

Dryer Doesn’t Heat Properly

Dryers require an air flow to create heat inside of their drum. If the dryer filter or dryer vent is blocked or clogged, it causes heat failure issues. Electric and gas dryers both have a thermal fuse and thermal cut-off safety devices built in to protect against overheating and fire. After unblocking the hose and cleaning out the filter, you may find that the dryer still doesn’t heat properly. This could be caused by these safety devices. They may have become burned out due to the overheating caused by blocked vents. If the problem is a broken safety device, then you’ll need to have it replaced. Heating issues could also be caused by broken heating elements or damaged gas igniters.

Dryer Makes Unusual Noises

It’s common to hear squealing or grinding noises coming from your dryer. Even so, they can still be a sign of a problem that should be addressed before the noises become serious damage. A loose drum belt could be causing the squealing noise, which is generated as it slides around the dryer drum. The belt should be replaced in order to stop the noise. Depending on which brand and model of dryer you have, a grinding noise could be caused by worn drum supports or the glides supporting the front of the dryer drum being broken. The noise can be fixed by replacing the broken items.

Given how much time a dryer can save, it’s important that you take the time to take care of your dryer. If you run into any of these problems – or indeed any other problems with your dryer – then don’t hesitate to give us a call.

How Many Years Does a Dryer Last?

We have fixed hundreds of dryers in Denton. Some are a few years old, and there are also some that last for more than 15 years.  On average, the life span of dryers are around 9 to 11 years. This depends greatly on the brand, how often it is being used, as well as how often the dryer has been maintained.

Dryers can take quite a heavy beating over the years, and without proper maintenance, the dryers lifespan can considerably be shorter.  If you are looking for washer and dryer repair in Denton Texas, call the number below.
